Gili Trawangan Accommodates Tourists Ahead of Nyepi Day

6 March 2019 11:28 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Hindu observance of Nyepi (Day of Silence) on Thursday, March 7, 2019, unexpectedly made nearby tourist island Gili Trawangan packed with international tourists temporarily fleeing from Bali.

As of Tuesday, March 5, the islands four ports were visited by 17 fast boats from Bali carrying 1,196 tourists. The ports consist of Gili Indah - Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan, and Port of Bangsal. This is a stark contrast to the day before on Monday that saw 851 tourist visits at Gili Trawangan.

Gili Trawangan’s Warna Beach Hotel & Restaurant general manager Rikardus Jumas expressed his gratitude upon the sudden massive visitation.

“Yes, we are fully booked for the night,” said Rikardus on Tuesday. The hotel he oversees is equipped with 16 ‘budget rooms’. Similar situations were shared across a number of local homestays and hotels.

This may seem insignificant to some, but is an actual improvement following the devastating earthquake that hit the region back in August 2019 and with some infrastructures that have yet been completely renovated.

Throughout the Nyepi Day, several flights serving Denpasar to Lombok will be canceled and 10 flights from Lombok to Denpasar will be unavailable in respect of the local tradition.
