TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chief of the National Police's crime unit (Bareskrim), Comr. Gen. Idham Azis, confirmed that Democrat Party politician Andi Arief had been arrested for allegedly consuming crystal meth.
“Yes, [Andi Arief has been arrested]” said Idham Azis via Whatsapp chat Monday, March 4.

According to a broadcast message, the police nabbed the Democrat Party’s deputy secretary-general at a West Jakarta hotel on Sunday, March 3, 2019. The message said Andi Arief tried to dispose of a bong into the closet during the raid.
Ahead of the 2019 presidential election, Andi Arief seized the spotlight when he called Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto a “cardboard general”. Andi Arief accused Prabowo of receiving money from Sandiaga Uno, which resulted in Prabowo’s tapping the ex-Jakarta deputy governor as his running-mate.
