TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan guaranteed the future of local workers after Pertamina acquired Indonesia’s most productive oil block ‘Rokan Block’ in Riau. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (PT CPI) will still operate the block until 2021.
Luhut mentioned the government’s plan in front of roughly 3,000 workers attending the Indonesian Prosperity Trade Union (KSBSI) meeting in Pekanbaru yesterday.
“In the future, the Rokan Block will be attained by Pertamina effectively in 2021 and there will be no labor reduction there. This will follow suit the Block Mahakam, where there was no reduction in the number of workers, wages stayed the same, we actually made it more efficient,” said Luhut in a press release on Sunday, March 3.
However, in order to improve workers’ skill and productivity at the oil block, Minister Luhut reminded workers to pursue workforce skills qualifications or certificates and mentioned about a case in Morowali industries where local workers were largely employed because of their sufficient skillsets.
Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said that the government issued and continues to remind foreign investors upon the requirement for foreign investors to employ local Indonesian workers as a part of their investment deal.
