4 Simple Tips to Make Exercise a Habit

1 March 2019 09:28 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaCreating a new good habit, particularly exercising, can be quite hard for some people as they have to face challenges and obstacles to start the routine.

A psychologist Vera Itabiliana outlined several tips to start a fitness routine. “These tips are easy to remember; 3-SU,” said Vera during an event of Europe-based international household appliances company Beko dubbed Healthy Living Starter on February 28.

The 3-SU stands for: set your goals, start small, seize challenges, and utilize surrounding. The tips, Vera noted, will effectively help you create a new good habit. She further explained it in detail as in the following.

1. Set your goals

A new habit, Vera noted, should be started with a clear goal. “You have to know your result expectation. So a new habit can be easier to carry out,” she said.

2. Start small

Vera opined that people should not set a huge target on a new routine. “For example, if you want to start exercising, do not set a target of running for a whole one hour. Start with small goals yet effective and raise it as time goes by.”

3. Seize challenges

Minimize any existing challenges while exercising, Vera underlined. “If you are meatball lovers, take another route to avoid meatball sellers. This is an effort to reduce your challenges,” she added.

4. Utilize surrounding

The last tips are related to the use of facilities around you. “You can join in a nearby sports club or the simplest, using home appliances for exercise,” Vera concluded.
