TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla assured that the 2019 presidential election will run peacefully and argues that political parties are not competing for certain political interests but rather dabbing for a larger authorization dominance.
“We don't need to worry about the effects of the election in Indonesia because however it may be, especially now, it is unclear who is against who. There are many political parties so there are no certain interests other than to achieve a bigger portion of power,” said the Vice President in his speech at the CNBC Indonesia Outlook 2019 today, Feb. 28.
He asserted the characteristics of Indonesia’s political parties tend to be dynamic and often adapt to any political standpoint depending on each election. Jusuf Kalla called for entrepreneurs to stay put in Indonesia and assured nothing bad would come out of the 2019 election.
He pointed out his own political party Golkar, which he said is dynamic. It was shown in the 2014 election where they backed opposition’s Prabowo Subianto but has now oscillated to Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Jusuf Kalla said that the political tensions most often happen on the internet. “The arguments are not in real life but in social media,” he said, “There is nothing that we need to worry about regarding this years' election.”
