TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian unicorn Traveloka officially expanded its business in Australia Wednesday, February 27. The expansion allows users in the country to access its services, such as online hotel and flight booking, via website and application.
Traveloka Head of Global Partnership Yady Guitana expressed the startup’s enthusiasm regarding the expansion to a new region outside Southeast Asia. In general, Australia has better infrastructure, either from the connection, payment, or internet adoption.

“So we hope our presence in Australia will provide more experience for users to enjoy various travel and lifestyle product in one place,” said Yady in a press release Wednesday, February 27.
Yady explained that as a co-branding partner of Indonesian tourism promotional program Wonderful Indonesia, Traveloka had a mission to support the government in attracting 20 million foreign tourist visits in 2019.
Based on Statista.com data in 2018, Indonesia ranked second for the most travel destination choice of Australians after New Zealand. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded tourist arrivals from Australia reached some 1.3 million visits in 2018, and expected to increase by 15 percent this year.
Tourism Ministry official Edy Wardoyo said the government’s target in luring 20 million foreign tourists could not be achieved unless with the synergy with players in the industry, including Traveloka. “Australia is one of the promising tourism markets because tourist arrivals from there gradually increase over the years,” Edy noted.
