TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that the support provided by Indonesia’s judicial institution is critically needed to improve the country’s economy. He says that the current natural resources have not been maximized to its fullest potential.
The government has initiated several strategies hoped to extract that potential through corruption eradication, regulation and permit simplifications, up to bureaucracy reform. All of which is done to maintain legal certainty to stabilize the investment climate.
“However, the government’s attempts would be useless if not backed by judicial institutions,” said Jokowi in his acceptance speech in the Supreme Court Annual Report today, Feb. 27.
The president added that the Supreme Court (MA) has contributed to Indonesia’s technological leap for the past few years, which can be seen, among others, by the country’s rank in the ease of doing business (EODB) that improved from 120th to 73rd.
“There was an important role from the reform done at judicial institutions led by MA,” said President Jokowi.
