TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Merapi was observed erupting lava to the southern area of Kali Gendong upstream with a varied distance of 300 to 900 meters four times today, February 27.
The Research and Development Center of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) on its official Twitter announced that based on the seismic data throughout 00:00 to 06:00 local times, seven earthquakes of lava avalanches occurred with a duration of 13 to 90 seconds.

The BPPTKG’s latest release also noted the volume of the lava dome reached 461,000 cubic meters with a daily growth rate of 1,300 cubic meters.
The lava dome is still stable with a low growth rate, which is at averagely below 20,000 cubic meters per day.
Up to date, the status level of Mount Merapi remains at Level II or Alert, and BPPTKG does not recommend any hiking activity, except for examination and research on disaster mitigation purpose.
BPPTKG appealed the public to stay away from the summit—outside the three-kilometer radius.
Due to a longer distance of lava avalanches, BPPTKG also suggests people living in the vicinity of Kali Gendol areas to increase the awareness of potential lava flows, especially in the case of rain around the summit of Mount Merapi.
