Jokowi: U-22 Squad Victory Begins Awakening of Indonesia Football

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that the winning of Indonesian national under-22 football team (Timnas U-22) in the Asian Football Federation or AFF Cup showed the power and harmony of the young Garuda squad.
“Players of Timnas U-22 come from various regions, tribes, and religions. In the field, those differences become harmony and power leading to a victory,” said Jokowi in his Instagram account Tuesday evening, February 26.

The President expressed his excitement on the result of the final match of AFF U-22 Cup between Indonesia and Thailand held at Phnom Penh, Cambodia last night.
The match and the achievement, Jokowi added, showed a real spirit of Diversity in Unity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika) of the team. He pinned hope the title would be an inspiration for the country’s football as well as the beginning of the awakening of the national football.
“I hope this victory will be the beginning for the awakening and progress of Indonesian football. From Indonesia, I send congratulations for Timnas U-22!” Jokowi remarked.
During the final match, goals presented by Sani Rizki Fauzi and Osvaldo Haay had taken Timnas U-22 led by Indra Sjafri to the victory with a score of 2-1.
