TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Information Ministry (Kominfo) is upbeat that 4G LTE services will be able to cover 100 percent of all Indonesian regions in 2019.
The ministry’s director of Broadband of the Post Development and Information Directorate General, Benyamin Sura, said the development of broadband via cellular network would be faster than fixed broadband.
“We surely hope that in 2019, 100 percent of areas in Indonesia will be able to enjoy the services of 4G LTE broadband,” said Benyamin on Monday.

He said the coverage of 4G LTE broadband had reached 90 percent of all Indonesian citizens since President Joko Widodo launched it in December 2015.
He explained the rapid development of 4G LTE was attributable to its affordable investments and easy installation. Telecommunication operator Telkomsel, he added, had even had a 97 percent coverage of the country’s total population across 514 regencies/cities.

“The penetration of this broadband is hoped to improve the Indonesian people’s economy and further optimize the use of e-commerce, e-health, e-governments, and e-learning, so that it becomes the enabler of the national economic growth,” said Agung Harsono, the commissioner of the Indonesian Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (BRTI).
