Police Find Source of Fire at Muara Baru Port

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe police have examined twelve witnesses in light of the fire incident at Muara Baru port, North Jakarta on Saturday, said Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono.

“The witnesses are ship crews, captains, ships' owner, and harbormaster office,” said Argo in the incident site, Sunday, February 24.

Based on witnesses’ testimony, the fire was allegedly sparked due to the welding carried out by ship crew the ship deck. The fire spread to a number of vessels in Muara Baru port.

The fire incident occurred at 15:00 local times on Saturday and successfully extinguished on Sunday morning. The fire burnt at least 30 vessels at the port.

Tanjung Priok Port Resort Police Chief of Criminal Unit, Sr. Comr. Faruk Rozi, said the police was still examining witnesses and investigation was still underway. However, the police, he added, did not arrest yet the cabin crew who allegedly caused the fire.
