PSSI Executive Committee on Dethroning Joko Driyono

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) committee member Refrizal said that he is legally unable to dethrone Joko Driyono from his status as PSSI chairman as there are no definite legal provisions against him.

“He can’t be dethroned since the case is not about match-fixing but alleged evidence tampering,” said Refrizal to Tempo on Thursday, February 21.

However, he said that it would be a different story if Joko personally decides to step down from his position as previously done by former PSSI chairman Edy Rachmayadi, as it is the right they bear.

Anti-soccer mafia police task force recently named Joko Driyono as a suspect of alleged evidence tampering linked to numerous bribery cases incriminating clubs and PSSI officials at the Liga Indonesia competition.

Joko Driyono is currently undergoing police questioning after he fulfilled police’s first summons on Monday where investigators only managed to ask 17 out of the total 32 questions.
