TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Neuroscientist and neuroanatomy expert Dr. dr. Taufiq Pasiak, M.Kes, M.Pd. advised people to not skip breakfast because the morning food intake is crucial for brain health and development in the long run.

According to Taufiq, brain development is determined by nutrition and information. "Nutrition helps form the brain’s physical construction, while, information is needed to improve intelligence,” he said in an Energen press conference at the 2019 National Breakfast Week on Thursday, Feb. 21.

Breakfast mainly acts as the crucial source of nutrition for our brain if provided sufficiently. It helps maximize brain development that affects cognitive performance such as short term memory.

“Having routine breakfasts will turn short term memory into long term memory,” he said, other than to help maintain and stabilize a person’s emotion.

Furthermore, Taufiq made it clear that all of the breakfast benefits could only be obtained if done as a routine habit and not skip breakfasts from day-to-day.

“The key is to continuously have breakfast. This way, we can feel the benefits, such as cognitive functions, emotion, and a better-spirited behavior.”
