TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Finance Ministry announced that the total debt owed by the central government as per January 2019 reached Rp4,498.56 trillion. This amount is equivalent to 30.1 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

The figure also reflects an increase of Rp80.26tn from December 2018's debt of Rp4,418.3tn. On an annual basis, the debt is up by Rp539.9tn.

The value of government debt is still below the limit set by Law No. 17/2003 on State Finance, which is 60 percent of the GDP.

Government Securities (SBN) still dominate the total debt, reaching 82.31 percent. Meanwhile, the remaining 17.69 percent is attributable to loans.

Of the total loans of Rp795.79 trillion as of January 2019, almost all or Rp788.66 trillion were loans from foreign parties.
