TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan says the country is faced with the complicated issue related to waste management. This is why the government initiated the national waste care day.
Luhut sees Indonesia’s waste epidemic originate from numerous regions and asserts the need to spark much-needed awareness to take care of the environment.
“Especially when we claim to be the most religious being, but do not even care about [the country’s] polluted environment,” said Luhut today at the Environment and Forestry Ministry headquarters.

The launch of a nationwide movement to reduce waste was mentioned in the national work meeting led by Luhut who maintains that it is truly important for Indonesians to participate in the cleanup program.
“This is a non-partisan issue or the poor or rich. This is our personal matter to our Creator and the next generation. Our greatest sin is to create a generation with stunted growth,” said Luhut who mentioned the dangers of plastic waste turning into microplastic that will eventually cause stunted growth to those who consume fish that are exposed to microplastic.
