TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The issue of land owned by Prabowo Subianto has become public spotlight after Joko Widodo or Jokowi, during the second presidential debate on Sunday, revealed that Gerindra Party chairman owned 340,000 hectares of lands in Aceh and East Kalimantan.
Based on an investigative report done by Tempo and civil group Auriga Nusantara, it is recorded that Prabowo owned several plots of lands in several regions of Indonesia. The total area controlled by the former Commander of the TNI's Special Forces Command is 361,983 hectares.
As quoted from Koran Tempo on Tuesday, February 19, the 97,300 hectares of land is located in Aceh under the name of PT Tusam Hutani Lestari and 187,920 hectares of land in East Kalimantan under PT Tanjung Redeb Hutani.
Prabowo is also recorded to own 2,000 hectares of mining land in Berau under PT Tambang Berau Coal, 14,950 hectares of mining land in East Kalimantan under PT Nusantara Energy, and 14,980 hectares of mining land in East Kutai under PT Erabara Persada Nusantara.

In addition, Prabowo controlled 14,900 hectares of mining land in East Kutai under PT Nusantara Santan Coal, 14,010 hectares of forest land in East Kalimantan under PT Belantara Pusaka, and 11,040 hectares of mining land in East Kutai under PT Nusantara Kaltim Coal.
During the debate, Prabowo admitted to owning the land, adding that the land status used the cultivation right permit (HGU). He claimed to be willing to return the land should the country need it.
Prabowo mentioned that the land was better to be controlled by him rather than a foreign party. “It’s better for me to manage it because I am nationalist and a patriot,” he underlined.
When asked for confirmation related to the issue, spokesman for Prabowo - Sandiaga campaign team, Dian Fatwa, said that the land owned by Prabowo should be viewed in a fair way considering the land was owned and managed based on the prevailing procedure.
“There is nothing wrong with that. What is the difference with lands owned by Sinar Mas, for example?” Dian told Tempo Monday, February 19, asserting that there would not be a conflict of interest despite the ownership of hundred hectares of land by Prabowo Subianto.
