TEMPO.CO, JakartaVice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) demanded the public behave and have self-discipline by the time MRT Jakarta starts its commercial operation.

“How people form self-discipline? By not vandalizing the train, arrive in time, and make a line,” Kall said today, February 20, after trying MRT Jakarta train in Hotel Indonesia Roundabout MRT Station, Jakarta.

JK said that Indonesian people has shown self-discipline behavior during the 2018 Asian Games. Therefore, to promote self-discipline culture in using transportation, the vice president deemed the dissemination and encouragement are required.

According to Kalla, self-discipline could be formed if it is built as a culture. “If there is constant monitoring, it’s not self-discipline, but based on fear of being monitored,” he noted.

JK recalled his experience while boarding Ratangga or MRT Jakarta with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Jakarta Governor, saying that the train has fulfilled requirements as safe, convenient transportation.

Ratangga will start its commercial operation between March 24 - 31, 2019. The project's first phase has 13 stations which 7 of them are elevated stations in Lebak Bulus, Fatmawati, Cipete Raya, Haji Nawi, Blok A, Blok M, and Sisingamangaraja. Whereas the rest are underground stations located in Senayan, Istora, Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas, and Hotel Indonesia Roundabout (Bundaran HI).

MRT Jakarta is expected to daily board 65,000 passengers. Jakarta provincial government is still discussing the ticket fare.
