TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan confirmed it would be impossible to hold a presidential debate without the presence of panelists, as initially suggested by VP candidate Sandiaga Uno.
“Panelists is ordered by the Constitution,” said Wahyu Setiawan prior to attending KPU’s meeting for the next debate at the KPU headquarters today.

The presence of panelists is mentioned in the General Elections Law (UU Pemilu) No.7/2017 which states that panelists are responsible to name a theme for presidential debates.
Previously, Sandiaga Uno said that the set of questions composed by panelists are not well-understood by a large portion of society. He suggests for the next debate between vice presidential candidates to be held without any panelists.
“We shouldn’t answer questions. Just present our programs, vision, and mission, and ask each other regarding each topic of discussion,” said Sandiaga Uno at the BPN media center on Monday.
