KPU Announces More 32 Ex-Graft Convicts Running in 2019 Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) announced other 32 former corruption convicts who are running the 2019 Legislative Election, reaching a total of 81 people. KPU chairman Arief Budiman said that the additional list was updated based on the report of regional KPU.
“KPU provinces and regencies/cities reviewed and examined the candidates, and reported the result to us that several data had not been yet submitted,” Arief said in his office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, February 19.
KPU Commissioner Ilham Saputra outlined that seven of the additional 32 ex-corruptors are candidates of provincial-level Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), while the rest 25 are candidates of city-level DPRD. Meanwhile, there is no additional list for the Regional Representative Council (DPD); stays at seven people.

Ilham explained that KPU identified more former corruption convicts from the Hanura Party, and the number amounted to eleven people, the highest number of all parties.
Several parties previously excluded were found to support former corruption convicts candidate, which included PDIP, PPP, and PKB. Meanwhile, PSI and Nasdem Party remained as parties that did not submit candidates who previously named as convicts in the graft case.
The up-to-date list of former corruption convicts running the election is: PKB (2), Gerindra (6), PDIP (1), Golkar (10), Garuda (2), Berkarya (7), PKS (2), Democrat (10), Perindo (4), PPP (3), PAN (6), Hanura (11), PBB (3), and PKPI (4).
