TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) Abhan said that his side would first examine the report filed by Eggi Sudjana against presidential candidate number 01 Joko Widodo or Jokowi. Bawaslu received the report today morning, February 19.
“We will examine the report by asking related parties for testimony,” said Abhan via a phone call Tuesday, February 19.
Eggy and his team, claimed to be a representative of Anti-Hoax Community Coalition, reported Jokowi to Bawaslu for spreading false news or hoax to the public during the second round of the presidential election debate on Sunday, February 17.
“We agree to report Jokowi from a legal perspective as he issued false statements,” said Eggy at Bawaslu building, Central Jakarta today, Feb. 19.
The politician of National Mandate Party (PAN) who backed presidential candidate number 02 Prabowo Subianto claimed that the report represented the public who demanded honesty. “Do not lie to the society,” he asserted.
Eggi explained that Jokowi had lied by saying that the government had suppressed the corn import to 180,000 tons in 2018, while the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) issued a different figure. Throughout 2018, the corn import reached 737,220 tons with a value up to US$150.54 million.
Eggi also mentioned Jokowi’s statement on wildfires. During the debate, Jokowi claimed there was no wildfire case for the past three years which then invalidated by the fact.
“There are, in fact, many cases of wildfires during Jokowi's ruling. For example in Riau, Sumatra, and Kalimantan. Media reporters can just search it on Google,” Eggi added.
Thus, Eggy Sudjana demanded Bawaslu be firm towards Jokowi and suggested the institution disqualify the incumbent candidate.
