Jokowi Blasts Earpiece Rumor as Plain Ignorance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Jokowi denies accusations of him using an earpiece throughout the second presidential debate on Sunday. This ‘earpiece theory’ first arose from social media.
“What is this, don’t continue on with those slanders,” said Jokowi at Pandeglang, Banten on Monday, February 18.
This rumor was based on a still image of Jokowi on the stage of the presidential debate pressing his finger to his ears and seemingly holding something in his hand, which he explained was a pen that he was holding on to.
“It was a pen. Go ahead and check, don’t go on and create ignorant rumors,” said Jokowi.
Other than a photo of Jokowi holding his hands, the accusation was driven by the fact that the presidential candidates were not allowed to know the questions prior to the debate, unlike the first presidential debate.
