TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has decided to split the second presidential debate into several segments.
"The duration for each segment will remain like the first debate, but with a different mechanism," said KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan at Hotel Mercure Sabang in Jakarta on Friday, February 15, 2019.
According to Wahyu, the second debate will last 90 minutes that are split into six segments. In the first segment, presidential candidates will introduce their programs and vision for 23 minutes and 15 seconds.
The second segment will dissect the candidates' programs through panelist-composed questions on energy, food security, and infrastructure. The third segment will discuss programs related to natural resources and the environment.
Meanwhile, unlike first debate, in the fourth segment of the second debate candidates will be asked to respond to 30 to 60 second videos.
"That is where we can judge the candidate's explorative abilities upon understanding and finding a solution to certain issues," said Wahyu.
Later segments will see both presidential candidates ask each other questions for roughly 20-minutes with a flexible time limit, as in there will be no limit for either Jokowi or Prabowo to answer each question.
KPU maintained that the fifth segment is designed to exhibit the originality and exploration of each candidate. "The fifth segment is called the inspiring segment," said Wahyu.
