10 Indonesian Provinces Named Halal Tourist Destinations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism Ministry provides technical guidance and workshops to representatives from 10 provinces in Indonesia. The 10 provinces had been appointed as halal tourist destinations.

The provinces are Aceh, Riau Islands, West Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara and South Sulawesi.

Representatives from the ten provinces took part in technical guidance and a two-day workshop by the Halal Tourism Development Acceleration Team, Crescentrating.com, and HalalTrip.com.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the growth of Indonesian halal tourism this year reached 42 percent. The number of foreign tourists targeted to visit the halal tourist areas this year is set at 5 million, a 42-percent growth from last year.

"The 5-million tourists target accounts for 25 percent of this year's total foreign tourists visit target of 20 million," Arief said.
