TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) chairman and National Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan took a jab at the current administration who he claims has unfairly jailed notable pro-Prabowo public figures.
“They say that the government loves Ulema, respects criticism, and differences. But when faced with a little opposition they get punished under ITE Law (UU ITE). [This] will ruin the [public] trust on law enforcers,” said Zulkifli at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex today. Feb. 12.
The recent imprisonment of a Prabowo supporter involves the 212 brotherhood leader Slamet Maarif who was arrested by the Surakarta Police for an alleged campaign violation. Slamet is listed as the Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno campaign team (BPN) deputy.
Other than Slamet, other cases claimed by the opposition to be false imprisonment were criminal cases involving suspects Ahmad Dhani and Buni Yani. Both men were charged under the Law on Electronic Information and Transactions (UU ITE) and sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
However, Zulkifli acknowledged that the cases mentioned above are within the law enforcement realm but maintained that the cases incriminating the Prabowo backers will backfire.
