Gojek Responds to Government's GPS Ban

12 February 2019 15:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian online ride-hailing service Gojek announced that the company appreciates the government’s move upon introducing a GPS-ban for motorists.

“The safety of passengers and partners is our main priority. We appreciate the government’s step by introducing such law,” said Gojek VP Corporate Affairs Michael Say on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Gojek is aware that the policy does not entirely ban the use of a GPS unit while operating a vehicle, but rather to limit the driver’s interaction with a GPS unit while operating a vehicle to maintain concentration and overall safety.

This specific limitation is mentioned in Article 106 (1) of Law No.22/2009 on traffic and vehicles stating that drivers must operate their vehicle reasonably with utmost concentration. Violators are faced with a three month jail time under Article 283.

Furthermore, Gojek reminded its drivers to adhere to the law and urged them to set their destination in their GPS unit prior to operating their vehicle. It also urged customers to always input the correct address to help ease the drivers.
