TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Industry Ministry plans on tapping into the United States and Europe to export products made by the country’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“[We are looking into] the US and European markets because of their stronger economic fundamentals,” said Gati Wibawaningsih, the ministry’s Director General for Small, Medium, and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) on Monday.
She said products from SMEs had a specific type of market, and that both the US and Europe markets accepted them—especially craft products.

Gati explained the ministry was stepping up furniture exports to multiple countries this year in the wake of high, foreign demand.
She continued other sectors of SMEs encouraged for export comprised food and beverages, electronics, automotive components, crafts and textile products.
Gati said presently only 300 of the total 27,000 SMEs in the country were exporting their products.
