TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDIP) central executive board, Hendrawan Supratikno, said Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP) or Ahok had officially become the party's cadre.
“Ahok has had a KTA (membership ID card). So administratively, there is no problem,” Hendrawan told reporters Friday, February 8.
Ahok’s staffer-cum-PDIP legislative candidate Ima Mahdiah said that Ahok, who asked to be referred to as BTP, had become a PDIP cadre since two days after his prison release. “Since January 26, 2019,” Ima told Tempo via a phone call on Friday, February 8.

Ima explained that BTP joined PDIP on his own accord as opposed to an invitation. “He previously visited Bu Megawati (the PDIP chair) after getting out of jail, asking for consent to enter PDIP,” she added.
BTP is visiting the DPP PDIP in Bali beginning today until the next two days together with several high-rangking officials of DPP PDIP Jakarta.
Earlier, rumors were rife that BTP had joined PDIP. DPP PDIP chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat said the former Jakarta governor had long planned to join PDIP and had met Megawati Soekarnoputri upon his release on Tuesday, January 24.
