TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s infrastructure development projects once again came under attack from Prabowo Subianto’s campaign team (BPN) that accused it of being inefficient.
BPN spokesman Suhendra Ratu Prawiranegara deemed Jokowi’s developments projects as inefficient and a burden to the country’s financial condition. Suhendra gave an example of the Light Rail Transit (LRT).
“Up to this day, the income generated from the Palembang LRT is underwhelming. The government spent Rp10 billion for operational costs while the income generated only amounted to Rp1 billion. There exists Rp9 billion gap that must be subsidized, how long does this need to continue,” said Suhendra at the BPN media center on Wednesday.

He also considered the government’s infrastructure project developments too ambitious and rushing things, which has affected state-run construction companies. He recalls four state-run companies (BUMN) that are currently in debt prior to working on the government’s infrastructure projects.
“This is the product of the government’s policies that failed to calculate the long-term effect. It’s as if the government just gave the projects to the BUMNs which drove them to take debts and bear the financial risks,” said Suhendra.
