DPRP Speaker Rebuts Attack against Two KPK Investigators

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papuan People's Representatives' Council (DPRP) speaker Yunus Wonda has  refuted reports on the assault against two investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at Borobudur Hotel, Saturday, February 2.

“We escorted KPK members to the Jakarta Metro Police in good condition. We have the latest photo of them when both were sitting next to each other,” said Yunus as quoted by Antara, Monday, February 4. 

Yunus explained that he and two DPRP members, the Papua regional secretary, and the administrative assistant to the Papua regional secretariat, the speaker of the Jayapura Legislative Council (DPRD), and several staffers of the Papua administration escorted the two investigators to the police. 

“We took them to the Jakarta Metro Police to ensure whether they were KPK officers, no bruised face or bleeding, everything was normal,” he noted.

Earlier, the spokesperson of the anti-graft body, Febri Diansyah, stated that two KPK investigators were assaulted while stationed at Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta on Saturday night, February 2. Both were severely injured and required to undergo medical operations.

Yunus Wonda asserted that he fully supported every policy and task of the KPK in eradicating corruption across Indonesian regions, including Papua province. 

“We really support [KPK], but we surely ask the reasons when our photos were taken by the KPK on Saturday, [because] this is privacy,” he said.
