TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in tandem with the Customs and Excise Directorate General have foiled an attempted trafficking of marijuana by the Aceh network. The operation managed to confiscate 1.4 tons of cannabis and arrested five suspects on Wednesday, January 30.
The drug trafficking was controlled by an inmate at the Kebon Waru Prison in Bandung. “The suspects together with the pieces of evidence were controlled by inmate SP from the Kebon Waru Prison,” said BNN Chief Comr. Gen. Heru Winarko in East Jakarta today.

The five suspects trafficked the cannabis by splitting the packages into two parts that were sent both via cargo and land transport. All of the packages were confiscated in three separate locations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Depok, and Bogor.
“The joint team investigated a truck from Aceh that was suspected of carrying cannabis,” said Heru, adding that the drug packages were hidden underneath the truck’s floor and reinforced with steel plates. At the same time, another team seized the marijuana that was sent via cargo at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
