Gerindra Politician Blasts KPU on Ex-graft Convict Candidate List

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra’s legislative contender Mohamad Taufik said the General Election Commission’ (KPU) was overacting when it decided to announce the names of former graft convicts running for parliament.
The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) deputy chairman is known as one of the six Gerindra legislative candidates who were incarcerated for graft when he was the head of KPU Jakarta.
“KPU is overacting. Go and handle issues such as the final voter list (DPT), or the listing of people that are mentally impaired. Work on the OSO case (Oesman Sapta Odang, the chairman of Hanura Party),” said Taufik at the Class 1 Cipinang Detention Center on Friday, February 1.

Previously, the KPU announced the names of 49 ex-graft convicts who presently ran for parliament. These people are members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD), provincial-level Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), and city-level DPRD.
Taufik is running for parliament in the 2019 General Election from the Gerindra Party in the capital’s electoral region three.
