TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) Advisory Council Din Syamsuddin reminded Muslim voters to choose wisely in the upcoming 2019 General Election. He viewed that MUI provides subjectively reasonable criteria for the public in voting for a future leader based on Islamic requirements.
“Whether it’s legislative or executive, [choose] presidential and vice presidential hopefuls that truly pay attention, cares and fights for the interests of Islam and the Muslim community,” said Din at the MUI headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 30.
According to Din, MUI also objectively urges Muslims to vote for a future leader that could develop the nation, which he says adheres to Indonesia’s proclamation of independence.
“Especially to uphold the country’s sovereignty across various fields,” said Din Syamsuddin, who also urges people to be politically-literate and preserve the country’s unity.
In the wake of the 2019 election, Din announced that MUI – a strategic partner for the government – will position itself on neutral ground in the election.
