TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartanto says that president and vice president hopefuls Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin implement a political strategy that contrasts from the strategy of United States President Donald Trump in the past US election.
“His strategy is surely positive and optimistic; we have to take our country to the optimism. Unlike Donald Trump’s strategy of [spreading] pessimism,” said Airlangga today, Jan. 29, at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta.
Airlangga argues that Trump’s message of pessimism has slowed down the economic growth.
“The Economist mentioned a slowdown global economy and the World Economic Forum shows that the global economy has slowed down because of uncertainty. This uncertainty is because of the US government’s shutdown,” said Airlangga.
Incumbent presidential candidate Joko “Jokowi” Widodo quite often mentions several parties that often spread messages of pessimism to the Indonesian people.
"We have to be optimistic, optimistic, optimistic," said Jokowi during his speech at the University of Indonesia (UI) alumni declaration on January 13.
