314 Cases of Dengue Fever; Depok on Alert Status

29 January 2019 12:42 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Depok - The Depok City Government declared an alert status for dengue fever. As of January 25, 2019, there had been 314 dengue patients admitted to the hospital.

Head of the Depok City Health Office, Novarita, told Tempo on Tuesday that the most cases were found in the sub-districts of Harjamukti, Beji, Cipayung, Mekarjaya and Pancoranmas.

NovaIa said that even though dengue patients were found throughout the Depok area, nine urban villages (kelurahan) did not report any cases of dengue. In total, 54 urban villages in Depok are recorded to have dengue cases.

Although there are hundreds of patients admitted, Nova said the Depok City Government has not stated extraordinary event or an outbreak for dengue cases. However, each kelurahan is expected to immediately eradicate mosquito nests to prevent an outbreak.

"So we are on alert status. Hopefully, nest eradication will be carried out simultaneously in all areas, especially in people's homes," said Nova.

Depok had an outbreak of dengue fever in 2016. That, said Nova, was due to poor eradication of mosquito breeding grounds.

"We have not declared emergency yet because there are still nine kelurahan that have not been affected," he said.
