TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People’s Coalition against Jakarta Water Privatization (KMMSAJ) sent invitations to President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to attend a discussion upon the execution of Supreme Court’s ruling to stop the city’s water privatization at the Jakarta Legal Aid (LBH Jakarta) office on February 4.
“We invite (President and Governor) to talk on the matter,” said Nelson Nikodemus, an attorney from LBH Jakarta, at his office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Sunday, January 27.
Jokowi, Anies, and four other litigants are the losing party in the court’s ruling registered on No. 31 K/Pdt/2017 date April 10, 2017, following citizen lawsuit filed on November 21, 2012.
Nelson mentioned that the invitation was delivered based on Article 149 of Het Herziene Indonesisch Reglement (HIR). “We will first ask [those parties]’s willingness to administer the ruling, should they refuse, we will ask the court,” he stressed.
The coalition frequently urged Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to return the city’s water management from PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) and PT Aetra Air Jakarta (Aetra) to the government through the contract termination as to stop water privatization.
“That strategy shows the dignity of the government,” a public lawyer from KMMSAJ Tommy Albert added.
