TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The release of Basuki “BTP” Tjahaja Purnama generated a substantial amount of discussions among Twitter users.

Jakarta-based media intelligence and data analysis firm Indonesia Indicator (I2) issued a report in a press release based on their research through Social Network Analysis (SNA).

The report found that the release of Ahok attracted 287,606 tweets from 58,385 accounts nationwide in the last two days. However, most of the tweets—around 67 percent—hailed from Jakarta.

“Based on the demographic, 82 percent that welcomed Ahok’s release were millennials and 41.2 percent among them were female users,” said I2 Communication Director Rustika Herlambang.

The tweets mostly consist of expressions of joy followed by anticipation. The tweets categorized inside ‘anticipation’ are expressions that quipped about Buni Yani and Rizieq Shihab. Meanwhile, negative sentiments aimed at Ahok’s release amount to 18.7 percent.

The I2 research also found that Basuki “BTP” Tjahaja Purnama’s release was welcomed with 60,603 hash tags #welcomebackBTP, 18,102 #Ahokbebas (Ahok is free), and 14,944 #btppulang (BTP is back home).

The former governor recently issued a public letter, mainly addressed to his followers, to call him “BTP”, which is an acronym of his complete name.
