TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned about the effects of Tropical Cyclone Riley across Indonesian regions.
“The main focus in these three days is in NTB, NTT, and Bali which will be affected by strong winds and high waves caused by Cyclone Riley,” said BMKG’s head of weather prediction Agie Wandala Putra on Thursday, Jan. 24.
This official national alert effectively starts on January 24 – 26 related to the tropical cyclone that formed over the Indian Ocean southbound of the Java Island.
The cyclone will have two effects, firstly forming a convergence zone over the Java Island, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) which will increase the rain intensity across the mentioned regions.
The second effect of Tropical Cyclone Riley is a direct one in the form of high-speed winds that will also create high tides, especially over the Java Sea, Banda Sea, Flores, Arafura, and the Indian Ocean. Agie said that heavy rain will be concentrated at Indonesia’s Southern region.
