TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - or BTP as he wishes to be called now – was officially released from the Police Mobile Brigade Detention Facility (Mako Brimob) in Depok this morning.
“Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has been released from Mako Brimob Kelapa Dua at around 07:30 this morning,” said BTP team member Ima Mahdiah in a text message Tempo received.
Ima said that BTP was picked-up by his eldest son Nicholas Sean with a BTP team member. They reportedly went directly home after BTP’s release.
Basuki Tjahaja Purnama served his time for a total of 21-months after being granted Christmas and general clemency last year.
Moreover, BTP’s former running-mate and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Djarot Saiful Hidayat said that BTP is ready to face the public and will not be in a hurry to re-enter politics.
“[BTP and his family] plan to travel to Bali, Belitung, and witness the Sakura in Japan,” said Djarot.
