Ahokers Gather before Mako Brimob Ahead of Ahok's Release

TEMPO.CO, Depok - A day before the release of former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) from Mako Brimob Prison, Ahok’s supporters or commonly known as Ahokers gathered around the area.
Based on Tempo observation at 17:00, five Ahokers donning typical plaid shirts gathered around Mako Brimob prison. “We are here since 13:00,” said Yudho Wibowo, one of Ahok’s follower, today, January 23.
Yudho said that he and other four Ahokers did not break the appeal of former East Belitung Regent which banning them to welcome the latter once stepping out of jail.
“We do not disturb public order and cause a traffic jam,” he added.
Those five Ahokers brought a banner and placed a mat in an empty kiosk that located 50 meters away from the gate of Mako Brimob. They did not plan to stay overnight and would return the other day.
Ahok is soon to be released tomorrow, January 24, after undergoing two-year imprisonment, that is reduced three months and a half remission, over blasphemy case.
The release inspired his supporters to prepare a welcoming event, and some even planned to stay overnight before Mako Brimob. However, Ahok through his handwritten letter dated January 17, which is posted on Twitter and Instagram account @basukibtp, appealed to all not to hold such a ceremonial event.
