TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A son of terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, Abdurrochim, expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of his father’s release that should have been executed today.
“We are disappointed, [the release] is President [Jokowi]’s promise, how come there is no clarification until this date,” said Abdurrochim after visiting Gunung Sindur Prison, Bogor, Wednesday, January 23.
Abdurrochim explained that his father was scheduled to be freed today, and so the family had prepared a welcoming event in Al-Mukim Ngruki Boarding School, Sukoharjo, Central Java.
“We hope that what Yusril promised and was approved by Jokowi will be realized,” Abdurrochim underlined.
After visiting his father in Bogor, Abdurrochim and Muslim Lawyer Team (TPM) headed to the House of Representatives to report the matter. “We continue to strive until [he is] released or receive confirmation.
Head of TPM advisory board, Mahendradatta, said that his side filed a report to the house of representatives (DPR) in related to the Government Decree No. 99 of 2012 concerning remission, assimilation, and parole as well as the president’s promise to free Ba'asyir.
“It must be underlined that the release is not ustad (Abu Bakar Ba'asyir)’s request, but President Jokowi’s promise, but then it is linked to a signing and other issues,” Mahendra added.
