TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has again honored as one of 100 greatest global thinkers listed by Foreign Policy magazine.
Minister Susi is featured alongside other ten in the security and defense sector for her bravery acts in curbing illegal fishing.
"She doesn’t shy away from using scare tactics—Susi is known for blowing up boats that have been caught fishing illegally in Indonesia’s territorial waters," the magazine stated.
Her brusque approach, as referred to the Foreign Policy, triggers a polemic and rises a tension in bilateral ties with China. But, “Susi is committed to regenerating her country’s vital fish stocks in ways that are accumulating both fans and enemies.”
Previously, the minister is also chosen as the Creative & Innovative Person of the Year in Indonesia Choice Awards 5.0 aired live on Net TV, Sunday, April 29, 2018.
In 2017, Susi is honored with Peter Benchley Ocean Award, which is the world’s highest award in maritime affairs, in the leadership category in May for her policy on economic development and sea conservation in the country.
Furthermore, in September 2017, Susi Pudjiastuti is named among 100 inspirational and innovative women of 2017 released by the UK-based media BBC.
