Jokowi to Attend Megawati`s Birthday Event

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to attend the 72^nd birthday celebration of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri. Her birthday celebration will be held by holding the 'Build Youths performance at Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel in Jakarta.

Jokowi is scheduled to arrive at Hotel Sahid at 14:00 local time. The event will be held at the hotel's Puri Agung Ballroom.

PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said that the birthday event involves Swara Gembira, a forum of more than 200 Indonesian millennials. They will do a cheerful performance representing Indonesian culture in the eyes of young people.

"Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri appreciates the youths, especially those between 17 and 27 years of age," Hasto said in a written statement on Wednesday, January 23.

Hasto explained, Megawati wants her birthday celebration to be modest; enjoying a dinner of local cuisines.

"But after a meeting with young people at the 'Megawati Bercerita' event changed everything," he said.

Last year, at Mega 71's birthday celebration, Jokowi came with Vice President Jusuf Kalla. At that time, Megawati`s birthday celebration included a theater performance.
