TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Tornado hit Jejalen Jaya Village, North Tambun, Bekasi today afternoon, January 22, destroying dozens of shops in the area. A number of electricity poles owned by state-owned electricity company PLN and Telkom collapsed.

Chief of Tambun Resort Police Comr. Rahmad Sujatmiko said that no death toll due to the phenomenon, but the material losses were predicted up to more than Rp100 million. “The evacuation process is still underway,” Rahmad said.

A meatball seller Sofiana recalled that at around 12 p.m, heavy rains fell in the region followed by strong winds that blew away roofs of the kiosks along Jalan Jejalan Raya in front of Daruss Salam residence complex. “My cart almost collapse,” Sofi added.

Sofi who planned to open her business at that time could only pray to survive from the incident because the strong wind even triggered electricity poles to collapse. “Every kiosk is damaged,” she said.
