Brother of Prabowo Recalls Funding Jokowi`s Campaign Effort

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto’s younger brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo revealed what went behind Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s 2012 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election campaign.

This issue arose in the last presidential debate after Jokowi mentioned to Prabowo that he did not spend a dime during the campaign.

“Pak Jokowi did not spend any money because the source of funding came from me, and that’s the truth,” said Hashim at the Prabowo – Sandiaga campaign base media center in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta yesterday.

The Gerindra Party higher-up also said that Jokowi’s statement was illogical and maintains that any form of candidacy needs to be backed with sufficient financial funds. Not only money, Hashim also claims that he funded other elements in Jokowi’s campaign such as funding the production of posters, t-shirts, and the flannel shirt that became an icon of Jokowi – Ahok at the time.

The first presidential debate held on January 17, saw President Jokowi recall his past experiences running for Mayor and Governor. He claims that he had not spent any money to fund his campaign.

“At the Jakarta Gubernatorial election I never spent any money. Pak Prabowo also knows about that, supporting political parties are also aware of that,” said Jokowi at the debate.
