TEMPO.CO, Kupang - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 12 aftershocks in West Sumba since Tuesday morning, January 22. The magnitudes of the aftershocks ranged between 3.7 and 5.2.
"There have been 12 aftershocks in West Sumba," the BMKG Geophysics Station chief at Waingapu, Arief Tyastama, said on Tuesday, January 22.
A large aftershock, measuring at 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale, occurred at 8:56 local time. The location was at 10.40 south latitude and 119.12 east longitude, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
"The earthquakes have no potential for a tsunami," he said.
Previously, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook West Sumba. The earthquake occurred at 19:59 pm. The location of the earthquake is at 10.52 degrees south latitude and 119.05 degrees east longitude.
"The epicenter was 103 kilometers southwest of West Sumba Regency, with a depth of 10 kilometers," Arief said.
