TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some 89.1 percent of the millennial generation are optimistic about diversity in Indonesia based on the Indonesia Millennial Report 2019.

"We generate a momentum of optimism to join hands and work together to make Indonesia better in future," Founder and Chief Executive Officer of IDN Times Winston Utomo stated during the Indonesia Millennial Summit 2019 here on Saturday.

Millennial Summit 2019 is an independent meeting aimed at shaping a better future for Indonesia by involving various stakeholders or related parties, including the government, industry players, and the community, Utomo remarked.

During the presentation of Indonesia Millennial Report 2019, Utomo pointed out that Indonesia has 63.4 million millennials.

The millennials belong to the age group of 20 to 35 years. Millennials constitute some 24 percent of Indonesia`s population, and they are the future leaders of the Indonesian nation.

The report revealed the optimism of millennials about Indonesia`s condition in the next year. As many as 83.4 percent of millennials are optimistic about the condition of Indonesia`s security, while 83.6 percent of the millennials expressed optimism towards democracy in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, 86.7 percent are optimistic about the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Some 79.2 percent of millennials expressed optimism about eradicating corruption in Indonesia, 76.6 percent of millennials are optimistic about Indonesia`s economic condition, 76.3 percent of those are optimistic about Indonesia`s political conditions, and 75.4 percent of millennials are optimistic about Indonesian law enforcement.

Utomo said only 23.4 percent of millennials kept abreast of news and political issues, while 79 percent of millennials checked their smartphones within a minute after having woken up.

"Only one of those follow the latest or political news," Utomo remarked.

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto had earlier stated that the government is encouraging the empowerment of the millennial generation`s human resources considered to be important in implementing industry 4.0.

"Industry 4.0 encourages the government to empower human talent. Hence, it is encouraged to focus on strengthening our young generation with technology and innovation," Hartarto emphasized.

On the occasion, Hartarto remarked that the millennial generation plays a vital role in industry 4.0, especially considering that Indonesia will also enjoy a demographic bonus period until 2030. This means as many as 130 million people of the productive age group can seize new opportunities to develop business in the digital era.
