Human Rights Issues in the Eyes of Sandiaga Uno and Prabowo

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto’s running-mate Sandiaga Uno revealed that he will talk about human rights issues in today's presidential debate based on his campaign visits in the past four months across 1,000 areas in Indonesia.
“The definition of human rights is fulfilling the basic essential needs of the people other than the protection of the people,” said Sandiaga Uno today, January 17, in South Jakarta.

Sandi, as he is often called, said that the people he met mostly see human rights as the government’s attempt in fulfilling the people’s needs for education, health, and proper jobs.
“The government should be able to provide solution and attention to citizens that are struggling daily upon improving their lives,” he said.
As of severe human rights cases, Sandiaga Uno said that the Law (UU) introduced in 2000 clearly explains the mechanism to handle severe human rights violations. He and Prabowo Subianto are committed to make peace with the past but will continue to push for the law to be upheld.
