TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Jakarta exposed an illegal drugs network in Salemba Prison. Among the three suspects that were arrested, one of them was a warder who had worked for 15 years in the jail.

Chief of the BNNP Jakarta Brig. Gen. Johny Latupeirissa explained a warder named Tirta alias Dado, while the two other suspects were Soni Kurniawan and Ridwan Siregar. Both were arrested while storing drugs in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, January 15.

The arrest, Johny said, was resulted from a report that they controlled drug distribution inside the penitentiary. “We have observed their network for the past three months,” said Johny on Wednesday, January 16.

Johny continued to explain that Soni, a recidivist who had indulged in drug crimes previously, acted as an operator between drug dealers inside and outside the prison, Ridwan as a courier and that the crystal drug was stored in Tirta’s storage.

Based on Tirta’s testimony, the network had operated since November 2018. Three transactions had been run within the three-month operation.

“We still further investigate the involvement of warders in this case of illegal drugs network,” Johny concluded.
