Indef: Retail Growth Inevitable

17 January 2019 10:01 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A senior economist with the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) said there are four sectors that will continue to grow and develop throughout 2019. The sectors are retail, health, education and infrastructure.

In a discussion dubbed 'Indonesia's Economic and Retail Growth in 2019' held in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 16, the Indef senior economist Aviliani said that retail growth is inevitable.

"Our population, which is 70 percent in productive age, will keep the retail sector alive," she said.

Aviliani said the increasing welfare of the middle class, including the productive age group, will boost consumption levels and allow the retail sector to grow in stages—on line with people's increasing needs.

People's need for better health, healthcare, and education will encourage the growth of the health and education sector, she added.

As for infrastructure, she said that the sector will continue to be the driving force of the economy in both urban and rural areas.

"Villages will receive an average funding assistance of Rp1 billion—for 74,000 villages in Indonesia. This will certainly drive the economy," she remarked.
