TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Career advancement is a dream of all employees, including millennials. However, a good employment record is not adequate to obtain a work promotion opportunity.
There are many required skills to fill the main position in a company, said a managing director of Robert Walters Southeast Asia, Toby Fowlston. One of the abilities is young talents who have international practice or at least have the ability to develop the business into a world’s level.
Fowlston opined that he senses a tight competition for skilled and experienced workers. Thus, the following is three skills that millennials must have based on the experience of a professional recruitment consultancy firm.
1.Foreign language
Master in a foreign language is the main requirement to fill in a strategic position in a company, said Eric Mary, a country manager of Robert Walters Indonesia. "At least, English language," he noted. According to him, such a skill is vital due to the swift flow of foreign investment and open chances of a company to expand business abroad.
2.Digital technology
According to Mary, capable of using digital technology is required for all employees in a variety of sectors. For example, an accountant is obliged to able to manage data using cloud-based software, manage big data technology, and manage a cyber-threat risk. Workers have to able to master change management caused by the rapid development of the digital economy, Mary added.
3.Analytical skill
A skill of performing analysis, interpretation, and providing data from many studies is essential for employees as well as those from millennial generation to achieve career advancement, said Robert Hohman CEO Glassdoor. The reason, he explained, one of the keys for a corporate to compete in this digital era is by using a research result as a direction to develop a company’s product and durability.
